Introduction

Egusi, also known to many as melon seeds is used by many in the West of Africa to prepare soup. Rich in vitamins and other nutritional values.

Preparing Egusi soup using Desire Sauce Mix, Dried sea bass, dried pepper and dried onions

Steps

  1. Transfer Desire sauce mix to a clean bowl and add one cup of hot water to mix. Leave covered for 5 mins.

  2. Heat palm oil (red oil), don't allow to bleach.

  3. Add mixture of desire sauce powder and allow to steam for a a few mins.

  4. Add egusi paste and keep stirring for about 5 minutes to form seed-like crumbs.

  5. Add Meat stock and crayfish. Set on low heat to simmer for 15-20 mins.

  6. Add cooked meat/stock fish/kpomo.

  7. Add moderate quantity of hot water and stir to avoid burning, leave covered for few minutes.

  8. Add washed vegetable leaves, also add  moderate quantity of seasoning cubes, salt and dried pepper to give desire taste.

  9. Stir and leave covered for 5-10 minutes 


Your egusi soup is ready. Serve with pounded yam or eba or Semovita. Some enjoy it with plain white rice. Give it a go and let us know what you think!

  1. 1 Pack grinded Ife Foods Egusi (Melon seeds)

  2. 1 Pack Desire sauce mix 

  3. Ife Foods Dried Sea bass fish

  4. Grinded Ife Foods Dry pepper

  5. Grinded Ife Foods crayfish

  6. 1/2 - 1 cup Palm oil (Red oil)

  7. Green vegetable (Spinach or bitter leaf)

  8. Salt to taste

  9. Cooked meat of choice 

  10. Cooked soft Kpomo

  11. Meat stock

  12. Hot Water

  13. Seasoning cubes
